2(ish) Week Check-Up

Image
On Friday, this cute little dude had his 2-Week check-up with Dr. McDavitt.  He's absolutely perfect of course, and weighed an even 8 lbs. (38th Percentile) .  This was an easy one - no shots.  We won't get off so lucky for the next visit!

Aunt Amanda Visits

Image
On her way to a DoTerra Convention in Dallas, Aunt Amanda stopped by for a visit, and to meet little Lincoln.  It was only for a day and a half but we had a great time!

Happy Father's Day!

Image
Happy Father's Day to the best Daddy & Husband around - Sam!  Thank you for giving me my four beautiful babies!

Grandpa & Grandma

Image
Once again, Grandma came down to save the day!  She was able to stay for 2 1/2 weeks & we are so grateful! Grandpa was also able to come down a couple of times, between business trips, while Grandma was here.  He didn't get to hold Lincoln until yesterday, though, because he had a bad cold!  Lincoln loved Grandpa snuggles! We're having a great time with this cute little dude.  With the age of the smart phone, it makes it easy to catch all of his cute little faces and expressions.  We love you Lincoln!

Newborn Photos

Image
Lincoln had his newborn photo shoot today, so he had his first home sponge bath to get ready!  He liked it.... sort of. We did newborn photos with Jessica Paul of Over the River Photography.  She did SUCH a wonderful job!  I was amazed watching her care & artistic talent.  We will definitely be using her for future family pictures!  Here are just a few of my favorites:

Summer Camp

Image
Nathan, Alexa & Maxwell started Summer camp today!  We were lucky enough to find a great program at a local Methodist Church.  They'll go Tues/Thurs from 10am-2pm for 7 weeks this summer.  It'll be like an extended vacation Bible school.  They're so excited - and even have some friends there already!

Getting to know Lincoln

Image
Staying in the hospital for 4 days was a great choice, even though I didn't end up having any complications with my kidneys.  Since Linc was in the NICU for the first couple of days, it gave me a chance to spend a lot of one-on-one time with him before we headed home to the craziness of 3 big siblings, 3 dogs, visitors, responsibilities, etc... He reminds me a lot of Max.  He seems really peaceful & calm. He really likes his binky and smiles while he's falling asleep, right before the crazy eye-rolling starts.  He makes a cute little pursed lip face, like Alexa did, and like I did when I was a baby.  His hand movements & facial expressions when he's hungry reminds me of Alexa.  His love of stretching reminds me of Nathan!  He has a reddish tint to his hair (like my brothers), and his eyes look blue!  Hoping they stay that way! I didn't do a great job of taking picture of Sam & I with all of the kids or with Lincoln.  But here's a...

Dr. Adam

Image
It's hard to put into words how grateful I am for this woman. She has a gift & I feel blessed to have found her to care for me, & all 4 of my babies, during 3 difficult pregnancies.  I am so thankful for her sacrifice, and that of her family, so that she can share her talent & knowledge with mothers who need her.  Dr. Adam seems to have endless energy, knowledge & skill.  She requires very little sleep and always does her best for her patients.   I am not sure if I will ever see her again; probably not.  I am glad I remembered to get a picture of her & Lincoln together so I have something to show my children when I tell them about this angel here on earth! We love you, Dr. Karolina Adam!

Name Story

Image
It's no secret that it's difficult for Sam & I to agree on a name for our babies.  We don't talk about it much during the pregnancy because we don't agree.  Boys, in particular, are hard for us to decide on (go figure)! The name I've always wanted to name a boy is Carter.  But for all 3 boys, I couldn't talk Sam into it.  I decided during my pregnancy that I really liked the name Cannon.  Sam said, "it could be considered."  Then the weekend before this baby was born, we were at the new X-Men movie, and we decided we both kind of liked Logan. The morning I was scheduled for my c-section, I posted on Facebook that I would make a loaf of bread for anyone who came up with the name we agreed on.  It was fun seeing all of the suggestions!  I really wanted a 2 syllable name, like the other boys.  I'm really into patterns, and like names to fit together. That morning, my friend Sarah DeCamps texted me with her name idea.  It was Lincoln...

He's out!

We finally got the baby in our room! His breathing was still a little fast so he couldn't be released to general nursery, but the pediatrician decided that since they weren't really doing anything but monitoring him, she would release him to my room.  I was so grateful!  It was actually even better than having him in general nursery because I got all of the benefits but it was a NICU nurse that came to monitor him & they only have 3 patients each.   Sam & I were finally able to spend some quality time together with our baby.  The kids also got to come up and hold him!  Surprisingly, Maxwell was the most thrilled.  It was adorable.   I sure love my FOUR kids! We also got another special visitor - our L&D nurse, Angela.  She really was the best.  We were lucky enough (and totally by chance) to get the nurse who precepted Aunt Jennie Jo when she was in nursing school.  She was so fun to be with & took really good ...

Last day of Kindergarten

Image
Nathan & Alexa's last day of Kindergarten was on June 6th.  I was in the hospital so Grandma Marie was sure to take this cute picture of them. I am so proud of both of them and how much they've learned this year.  They're growing up so fast.  Nathan is great at school.  He loves to learn and do well.  Alexa discovered this year that she is an artist.  Her academics were great, but that is where she really shined.  They both made great friends!  On to 1st grade!

The NICU

Image
Baby spent 2 days in the NICU because his breath rate was too fast.  Because it was fast, he wasn't able to eat so he just had an IV of glucose to keep his blood sugar up.  He was sure hungry and sucking hard on that binky! To be released to general nursery, it had to be below 60 bpm and stay there.  It would drop down enough that he could have a feeding, but then go back up.  It was so hard having him in there!  There is construction going on at the hospital to add the new pediatrics wing, so they put those little yellow earmuffs on the babies to protect their ears from the sounds of the jackhammers! I still wasn't feeling too great from surgery, but enjoyed going to the NICU when I could to get some snuggles from my cute little guy. There is time in the afternoon when they let siblings come into the NICU to see the baby.  Nathan, Alexa and Max were so thrilled to meet their new baby brother!  It was hard just being up in my room...

He's Here!

Image
Baby Boy Oldroyd born at 7:07 p.m.  on June 4, 2014 7 lbs. 5 oz, 19 in long The delivery was a little rough.  Baby kept sliding back up inside me. The assisting doctor (Dr. Shareef) had to push hard on the top of my belly to help him down, and I also ended up getting a bigger cut.  When he finally came, they couldn't get him to really cry.  He just had a really hard time clearing the fluid from his lungs, which is pretty common in C-Sections.  I got to hold him for a little bit, but it was hard because I didn't feel well from being so beat up & the nurses were trying to stimulate him the whole time so he would cry. After about 20 minutes, Dr. Adam had them call the NICU team.  They took him to the care room next to the OR & Sam went with him.  His oxygen was low at first, but it came up as they worked on him, so he never ended up needing supplemental oxygen.  His respiratory rate was high due to the extra fluid in his lung...

Baby Day

Image
Today is baby day!  My C-Section isn't scheduled until the evening so we have had plenty of time to get some last minute things done.  I wanted to go have lunch with the kids since I'll miss their last couple of days at school while I'm in the hospital.  We celebrated Baby Brother coming with some Subway sandwiches!  (Except no eating for me before surgery!) Then Grandma & I headed to get a mani/pedi before we left for the hospital.  Blue for baby boy!  Then we headed home, packed up and headed for... Target & JoAnn fabrics.  Gotta get those last minute errands in!  No but really, it was funny to see people's reactions when they would ask when I was having the baby and I would say, "today!" We finally did make it to the hospital around 3pm.  There, we found out that my C-Section had been moved from 5pm to 6pm.  So we hung out in L&D with our awesome nurse, Angela.  I was all hooked up to the monitors and starte...
