Max at School this month

Image
It's always a good day when I get to spend some time with Max at school! On March 1st I got to volunteer for teacher time out, where parents volunteer to do recess and lunch duty to give teachers a break. I loved surprising Max and he was happy to have mom there with him! Kindergartners are hilarious - they were AMAZED by my big belly and asked a lot of questions. It was so fun! Here is my good citizen with his Student of the Month award for March! So proud of you, Max! And lastly, today was Go Texas Day and Max had the Kindergarten Rodeo Parade. He makes such a handsome cowboy! I love this kid. School has not always been his favorite, but he is learning to love it and does really well there. His teacher loves him and he has a lot of friends! I love seeing how he learns and grows now that he's in school.

President Project

Image
Nathan and Alexa made George Washington and Abraham Lincoln for their President Project at school. They also had to do research about their President's life and give an oral report to their class. They loved it!

Max's School Projects

Image
We've had some fun Kindergarten projects in the past couple of weeks.  First was his 100th day of school project. A little monster for my little monster! Next came a Valentine's box. Nathan & Alexa have never had to make these, so I was pretty excited when Max came home with this assignment. I loved making these when I was in Elementary School each year! We settled on a shark and with a little help from Pinterest, this is what we came up with. It was one cool shark, sure to eat lots of Valentines!

Purple Max

Image
It was the purple party today and this is how Max came home. I can't even talk to him without laughing! I love this kid and his silly personality. He loves to have fun!

1st Grade Field Day

Image
Today was the Oakland Elementary Annual Field Day. They really do a great job making it a fun experience for the kids! There's lots of music, games, snow cones and even blow up slides! I got to go over and be with Nathan & Alexa for most of it. I love spending time with these two at their school!

Pink Out!

Image
Oakland Elementary had "Pink Out" day today to support the fight on Breast Cancer. Since our very own Grandma Joan is fighting this battle right now, we want to do all we can to support the cause. Even Nathan happily wore a pink shirt!

Max's First Day

Image
Maxwell's first day of Pre-K was today. He is so excited to be returning to Ms. Vanessa's Learning Garden. He'll go each Tuesday & Thursday from 9am - 2pm. I can't believe he'll be in Kindergarten in just 1 more year!

Welcome to FIRST GRADE!

Meet the Teacher

Image
Nathan & Alexa were so excited to meet their 1st Grade Teachers today! Nathan is in Mrs. Uschold's class and Alexa is in Mrs. Bubenik's class. We're looking forward to a great 1st grade year!

Summer Camp

Image
Nathan, Alexa & Maxwell started Summer camp today!  We were lucky enough to find a great program at a local Methodist Church.  They'll go Tues/Thurs from 10am-2pm for 7 weeks this summer.  It'll be like an extended vacation Bible school.  They're so excited - and even have some friends there already!

Last day of Kindergarten

Image
Nathan & Alexa's last day of Kindergarten was on June 6th.  I was in the hospital so Grandma Marie was sure to take this cute picture of them. I am so proud of both of them and how much they've learned this year.  They're growing up so fast.  Nathan is great at school.  He loves to learn and do well.  Alexa discovered this year that she is an artist.  Her academics were great, but that is where she really shined.  They both made great friends!  On to 1st grade!

Maxwell's last day of school

Image
Today was Max's last day of school for the year.  I got to go see the kids do a short little program and they were so adorable!  Max had a great year.  He has enjoyed school so much, especially this semester as they have focused on animals with each lesson!  He has learned to write his name, has learned his colors & shapes, and a lot of songs and fun facts about animals.  We're working with him at home on some basic reading and he's doing so well!  Max loves his friends at school, and loves his teacher, Ms. Vanessa.  We look forward to a great year next year!

School Time

Image
Because of work and growing a baby, I haven't been able to spend as much time at Nathan & Alexa's school as I would have liked.  But this month I was able to go a couple of times and it was so much fun! On the 17th, the Kindergartners did their egg drops.  The night before, we made a special box for their eggs (which I, of course, didn't get a picture of).  We put the egg inside a ziplock bag full of saltwater, then in a bigger ziplock back.  We then packed it inside the box full of giant sized marshmallows and popcorn.  Nathan & Alexa each decorated theirs with markers & stickers. The egg drop event at school was so much fun!  The Assistant Principal went as high as the roof of the school on a cherry picker & dropped the packages by class.  Both Nathan & Alexa's eggs survived!  Here are my two cuties waiting for their turn! Then today, Max was on a field trip for school so I was able to sign up to volunteer at "T...

Preschool Rodeo Day

Image
Maxwell had Rodeo Day at preschool.  Big Brother was nice enough to let him borrow the hat & boots! Mrs. Vanessa said he walked around saying, "Heyyyy... what's the big idea?" in his best Texas accent.  What a handsome little cowboy!

Rodeo Parade

Image
Today was the kindergarten rodeo parade! One of the great things about living in Houston is you get lots of opportunities to wear cowboy boots and hats. Cute kids! And it was such a nice day, Max rode his bike to the school while I walked. He was very helpful to point out every ant pile along the way so I "didn't get hurt." Cute cute boy!

Story Time Field Trip

Image
Maxwell had a fun little field trip with his preschool class.  Only he, Grace & Avery were able to make it, but they had a lot of fun!  The story-teller (Barnes & Noble - Sugar Land) read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  Then they made caterpillar hats!  After that, she read them a story where each of them built the different caterpillars with Duplo Legos.  They had a great time! And we couldn't leave out cute little Reese, who came along for the fun!

100th Day of School

Image
To celebrate the 100th Day of school, Nathan & Alexa had to make a poster of 100 things glued to it.  This is what we decided!  500 hot glue sticks later...

Nathan is a STAR!

Image
Last month, Nathan got to be the Star of the Week in his class!  He brought home the class pet, Lucy the Dog, & we made some scrapbook pages of things we did with her. We also made a poster all about Nathan!  Here is the poster & also his "favorite things."

Turkey Parade

Image
I got to go up to school today to see the Kindergarten Turkey Parade.  Their 5th grade buddies helped them make their turkey float (out of a potato & other decor) and their hats & vests.  So cute!

Alexa is a STAR!

Image
Back in September, Alexa was the "Star of the Week" for her class.  She got to bring home the "class pet," Timmy the Turtle.  We took pictures with him doing various activities and made a few scrapbook pages for her class book. We also made a Star of the Week poster all about Alexa!  They displayed it at school for a while & she got to bring it home today, as well as her "favorite things" poster. We love you Alexa!  You're a star every week at home!
